Smt. Pragna Parande, Member National Commission for Protection of Child Rights, New Delhi visited Netra Vidyalayam Jr. & Degree Colleges for Blind located in H H Tridandi Srimannarayana Ramanuja Chinna Jeeyar Swamiji’s Asram, Sriramnagar, Shamshabad on dt. 31.01.2021.

She interacted with the students, staff, management and acharyas. She expressed satisfaction with the care being taken by the organization for the welfare of Visually Impaired students. She felt happy to know the uniqueness of the Netra Vidyalayam Jr. & Degree Colleges, where the Visually Impaired students write exams without scribe/ helper and for the participation of Visually Challenged students in NCC Parade.

The Principal explained to her that, out of the 216 passes out (100%) from the inception of Netra Vidyalaya Degree College 120 students are doing jobs in Govt. & Private sector 27 students are pursuing their higher education and 69 students are preparing for Competitive examinations. In the detailed discussion, the Principal explained to her that the Visually Impaired students are paid their pensions by Governments only in their villages concerned at the pension payment centers on physical presence only.

The students go to their villages once every two months. They fear that if they do not go physically and receive their pension their names will be removed and their pension will be stopped. Since they are Visually Impaired, parents are to escort them. Most of the students are from far-off places and journeys are difficult for them. The financially poor Visually Impaired students need to spend a lot of money on the journeys. Different districts pay the pension on different dates.

Students who once go to their villages do not come back on time as they need support and for reservation of tickets. This is causing absenteeism. This is the helpless condition of all the physically handicapped students.

In this regard the management requested the Member NCPCR to take necessary action to help the physically handicapped students (Visually Impaired) by making it possible to pay the pension through banks on the attendance given by the heads of an educational institution, in case the students could not attend the pension payment centers physically.

Smt. Pragna Parande assured that she will take the matter to the notice of the Principal Secretaries and make a point at Central Govt. to do justice to physically handicapped students. She also assured that she will speak to the officers concerned and arrange to provide protection to Visually Impaired students (girls & boys) in transit from & to their native places.

She took the blessings of HH Tridandi Devanatha Jeeyar Swamiji and assured to visit the institution frequently.
