Blind Student Lenka Ravi wins “Best Bowler Award” at National Cricket Tournament-2016 Mumbai

Most people believe that life for a blind person is full of limitations and deserves their sympathy. Today, Mr. Lenka Ravi proved yet again that success and excellence can be achieved through determination and hard work. Mr. L Ravi, a visually challenged and blind student of Nethra Vidyalaya’s Varija, Vishakapatnam branch brought laurels to our State of AP,  by competing at national level. He has proved that his blindness is a challenge that can never be an obstacle in his path towards success and excellence.

He won  the “Best Bowler” award at the National cricket tournament which was conducted in Mumbai, from 11th to 13th of January 2016. The national tournament saw an active and enthusiastic participation by Mr. L Ravi, who through his exceptional bowling skills, determination and hard work, grabbed the “best bowler” award.

In the past, Mr. Lenka has been a part of the Andhra Pradesh cricket team, and had earlier helped them reach the finals of a tournament, which featured 12 state top teams. Mr. Lenka Ravi is currently pursuing his 10th grade/ class at Nethra Vidyalaya, Varija, Vishakapatnam, AP. He was selected for the Andhra Pradesh cricket team after his excellent performance at Anantapur in December 2015.

Mr. G. Suryanarayana, an alumni of Nethra Vidyalaya, captained the AP cricket team in the same tournament. Both these students have been a source of inspiration to lakhs of blind people across our country.

Mr L Ravi in his interview gave the following message “Let us not let blindness and disability be a source of discouragement to any of us. Life is too short to judge the abilities of a person based on myopic personal opinions. Let us together encourage and support many more Lenka Ravi’s and G. Suryanarayana’s develop and implement their skills and become talented equally contributing members of society. Let us learn to treat people overcoming disabilities with the same respect and dignity that each of us as human beings has a right to, in our country.”

Kudos to Nethra Vidyalaya kids, for making a difference in the lives of blind people, and filling up our hearts with affection, gratitude and respect. Let us support this noble cause by donating generously.
