The Indian Blind Sports Association hosted the 21st USHA National Athletics Championship for the Blind in New Delhi from 10 to 13 December 2018. The Association invited participation of blind (B-1) and low vision (B-2, B-3) athletes.
The 21st USHA National Athletics Championship had competitions in the conventional track, field athletic events and chess tournament.

The Meet was inaugurated by Hon’ble Shri Rao Inderjit Singh, President PCI and Minister of State, Ministry of Planning and Chemical & Fertilizers at 11:00 am on Monday 10th Dec.

Competitions were conducted under two separate age divisions, namely, Youth Intermediate Division for boys and girls between the age group of 14 to 17 years, and Senior/Open Division for men and women not below 14 years of age.

Nethra Vidyalaya School (Varija):

The championship witnessed six new national records in javelin, long jump, discuss, 100m race and shotput.

10 students from Nethra vidyalaya-Varija school along with 2 guide runners and 3 escorts have participated.

Nethra Vidyalaya school- Varija students won TEAM CHAMPIONSHIP Award in B3 Girls Category by achieving 24 points. This score was the highest of all the team championships given for 12 categories.

Nethra students also have won

  • GOLD – 6  (Javelin, Shotput, running, disc throw) ;
  • SILVER – 6
  • BRONZE – 6

Nethra Vidyalaya Junior College (Jiva):

Nethra vidyalaya Junior College for Blind won 4 gold medals from the 10 students who participated along with 2 guide runners and 2 escorts.

They have won,
• GOLD – 4 (Shot put, Running, and Long jump);
• SILVER – 5
• BRONZE – 5

Junior college student Kumari P Anusha intermediate second year, participated for the first time in the National level Sports Competitions among 19 states and created the History by breaking National Record in 100m Running.

A record number of 603 visually impaired athletes along with officials and support from 86 affiliate institutions from 19 states across the country have participated in various track and field athletic events and chess competition.

Closing ceremony was on 13th Dec afternoon by Olympic Medalist Boxer Sriman Vijendra Singh ji, who has handed the medals to the champions.
