P. Naga Raju, 7th grade student of Nethra Vidyalaya Varija school for the blind and visually challenged, participated in the Andhra Pradesh State Chess Association championship. He won 26th place in the competition and won the open and best player in special category awards. What had started off as a casual evening game and pass time for Naga Raju, became his passion.

In an interview, young Naga Raju  said “Chess has helped me develop a sense of timing and calculate the number of moves it takes to defeat my opponent and also predict the moves of opponents and players! I enjoy playing chess with my class mates and I encourage everyone to take up chess as a sport. It is a good brain exercise and keeps my brain sharp. I thank my teachers and HH Chinna Jeeyar Swamiji for encouraging us to take up and learn new sports.”

Naga Raju hopes to  go on to participate and play in many other competitions across the country on the nation level.

The All India FIDE RATED – open chess tournament was conducted from 24th to 27th September and 250 players from various cities and districts participated in this grand tournament.

Congratulations on your spectacular victory P. Naga Raju.

You make us beam with pride!
